Lady Gouldian Finches are native to only one location in the world, and that is the northern most regions of Australia (where they are on the endangered species list). In researching the weather conditions in the northern regions of the Northern Territory of Australia (one of their primary remaining habitats) to help us understand the ideal breeding conditions for these little wonders, we realized we could also have some fun. The primary breeding season for Gouldians runs from February through July (which is mid-summer through mid-winter down under). Based on a 45 year average of the weather data that we studied, we found the average temperature to be 78 degrees and the average humidity to be 52% during these months. Of course the summer months were more extreme, and the winter months more moderate.

But we were looking for the average, assuming our little friends were probably most comfortable at the mid point of their breeding season. During this study, we became intrigued with the extremely different weather conditions of a very different tropical jungle than what you might expect. Only two seasons, the “Wet” season, and the “Dry” season. We found it interesting that the Gouldian breeds from mid-summer through mid-winter, seemingly ignoring temperature and length of day, as is the popular thought on how a birds breeding instinct is induced. All over the world, there is an ongoing cat overpopulation. Most anywhere, these cats are gathered and killed, sometimes, by very cruel means. In the United States alone, more than six million cats are put to death each year.

Adoption is the right thing to do, if you want a cat in your life. When you adopt a cat or a kitten from an organization like your local shelter, SPCA, or another volunteer cat rescue operation, you are not only saving the life of that animal, but also, you are helping another animal to take its place in the shelter.

Adopting a kitten or a cat has its benefits. A kitten is a very cute animal and has more of a chance of getting adopted by other people. If you adopt an older cat, however, not only will you be saving is life and making space in the shelter for another animal, but also, you’ll find yourself with less work. As a plus, most adult cats that are put up for adoption are already housebroken, trained, and vaccinated. Also, an adult cat understands that the new owner is the one who saved its life and it looks up to him to form an unbreakable bond with him. If you adopt a cat, keep it indoors unless you have a fenced yard or a screened porch. Cats kept indoors live longer, are cleaner and more disease-free, and are not subject to attacks by other larger animals.

Aggression is common, although some breeds such as bulls and terriers are more likely to display aggression as they age. - Act as a dominant owner. If a dog senses that he or she is dominant in your house, or the seeming owner of it, then it can turn itself into the alpha dog and establish itself as the leader of your pack. It can then think that it has the license to snap at other dogs and display aggression.

- As much as possible, keep only one dog at home. The more dogs you have, the more defensive your dog will become, and the more likely he or she is to display aggressive behavior or snap at other dogs.

When a puppy lets you hold it like you would hold an infant, it is a sign that the puppy is willing to be submissive.

Next, you should consider your current dog’s size. If you have a Yorkshire terrier, you may not want to buy a Boxer puppy. A big, rowdy puppy can hurt a small dog quite a few times before it realizes its own strength. If you currently own a big dog that has a great temperament, you may be able to add a small breed puppy to the family, but you will have to be prepared to keep a close eye on the dogs at first when they are together. Do you have an unaltered female dog? These dogs often are upset when another female dog enters their domain. You may need to alter your dog before she will accept another female. If you have an older dog, you may want to reconsider buying a puppy. These dogs often have aches and pains and are less patient than they were when they were younger. Instead, you may want to consider adding a more settled and mature dog to the family. After all, it will be easier on your older dog to adjust to a dog that has finished teething and chewing. However this is not always the case, some older dogs find a new lease of life when a puppy is introduced to the home. You should be the best judge of your dog’s temperament and be able to gauge how the older dog will react.

Finally, some breeds of dogs have more trouble accepting a new puppy than other breeds. Some of the toy breeds become a bit spoiled and jealous of other dogs. If you have a pampered Yorkshire terrier or Miniature Pinscher, you may find that introducing the new puppy can be a bit of a challenge. Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, and other breeds that have problems with aggression may have problems, as well. However, each dog is an individual and some dogs who are members of these breeds have no problem accepting a new puppy.

Poisoning

Empty the stomach of the dog. Induce vomiting. How? Try mixing one half hydrogen peroxide (regular drugstore strength of 3%) and on half water and pour it down the dogs throat. Use a tablespoonful of mixture to each 10 pound of weight of the body. Force your dog to drink of large amount of milk or beaten egg for this may also be effective. Third, the symptom goes to a paralytic stage. Its jaws and throat become paralyzed. This is the first symptom in dumb paralysis.
